Inside Scoop: A peek inside the star-studded restaurants at the Graton Resort & Casino, due next month
The much anticipated Graton Resort & Casino opens at Highway 101 and Wilfred Avenue in Rohnert Park on Nov. 5, complete with four full-service and nine casual restaurants.
And hardly anyone is as excited about it as celebrity chef Martin Yan, who came to Sonoma County today for a hard hat tour of his new M.Y. China that sits next to the high roller slots lounge.
“This is more exciting than my San Francisco restaurant,” the effusive chef said, decked in a white construction helmet and threatening to knock over scaffolds as he talked not just with his hands, but his arms and entire body.
“It’s the same menu, with specials, but it’s a better atmosphere,” he said. “Look, it’s a casino right out there. The other (San Francisco M.Y. China) restaurant is in a shopping mall. This is two floors, it’s like a theater. The other restaurant is just one floor, and the ceilings are only this tall (indicating a height about seven feet off the ground).”
Plus, he added, “Parking here is free. Over there, you gotta pay 15 bucks.”
Besides Yan’s operation, the 340,000 square foot, $825 million structure includes DK Wings from Douglas Keane (Healdsburg Grill and the former Cyrus), Tony’s of North Beach and Slice House in two concepts from Tony Gemignani (Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza), The Daily Grill (a West Coast chain), and the casino-owned 630 Park Steakhouse.
There’s also Scoops/Three Twins Ice Cream, La Fondita of Santa Rosa, Boathouse Sushi of Rohnert Park, Roadside BBQ of San Francisco and San Rafael, the Beach Hut Deli chain, the Habit Burger Grill chain of Irvine, and Starbucks.
Naturally, there’s extra buzz around Keane’s project, considering he just won top honors as Bravo’s Top Chef Master.
And indeed, hardly anyone is as excited about that as Greg Sarris, tribal leader and chairman for Graton Casino owners the Graton Rancheria Federated Indians. He handpicked all the Graton Casino dining options, and said he was thrilled to have snagged Keane before too much fame might flit him away.
After all, “He just won, what is it, Bravo TV chef of the Year?” Sarris asked.
To whet diners’ appetites, here’s an Inside Scoop look at the Casino, in pretty pictures snapped by Inside Scoop.
